Asia Insights with Helen, Director of Asia

To gain further insight, Helen discusses the upcoming trip to China and its significance for Business Events Adelaide in the incentive travel market.

What are your plans for your upcoming trip to China?
Next month I'll be focused on attending a series of seminars organised by Business Events Australia across several major cities, mainly in Beijing and Qingdao.

How do these seminars support Adelaide’s engagement with the Chinese incentive market?
These seminars provide a valuable platform to engage directly with corporate clients and MICE agencies, share the latest updates on Adelaide as an incentive destination, and strengthen industry relationships. It is also an important opportunity to better understand the evolving needs, preferences, and feedback from the Chinese market, particularly for incentive travel, so that we can tailor our offerings more effectively.

How has accessibility between Asia and Adelaide evolved in recent years?
It's improved significantly in recent years, supported by strong collaboration with Adelaide Airport and airline partners. We are seeing increased flight frequency and capacity, making travel more convenient and competitive. Notably, China Eastern Airlines will launch a seasonal direct service between Shanghai and Adelaide from 20 June to 1 August, operating 3 flights per week (Monday, Thursday, and Friday). This is a highly attractive option for incentive groups from China.

Malaysia Airlines has also increased its Adelaide service to daily flights and upgraded to the new A330-900neo aircraft, offering enhanced comfort and connectivity for travellers from Asia.

What are Adelaide's unique advantages?
Accessibility, lifestyle, and premium experiences
set Adelaide apart. It is known for its affordability and ease of navigation, allowing visitors to enjoy a high-quality experience without the complexity of larger cities. The city is also recognised as the gateway to some of Australia’s most renowned wine regions, including Barossa Valley, reinforcing its reputation as a “Wine Capital.”

Additionally, access to competitive bid funding, assistance with event planning, and strong government support are advantages. We work closely with organisers to develop customised proposals, connect them with our members, and ensure a seamless delivery for the delegates.
